Taste Cooking Residency (2018)
One of my missions when I left my day job in 2017 was to bulk up my writing portfolio. I had never freelanced with writing before, so I wasn’t sure where to start. I wrote a couple articles here and there but it really wasn’t enough to get a career going. I attended the 2018 IACP conference as a scholarship fellow, a select group of "emerging and mid-career professionals under the age of 40”. That fateful week was where I met Anna Hezel and Matt Rodbard in person. We rapped about a few of my story ideas and they wanted to tell me more about a writing residency they started at TASTE.
TASTE is an online magazine for people who love to cook at home and enjoy reading about approachable recipes, popular and emerging ingredients, and stories reported from the frontlines of today’s quickly moving food culture.
The next week, I was learning the ins and outs of pitching and got to writing my first piece. Three months passed by and here I am with an actual writing portfolio, expertly edited and massaged by Anna. Click and read on, I’d love to hear what you think!
Special thanks to all of my photographers Sarah Keough, Mackenzie Smith, Jerm Cohen; advisors Bernadette de la Vega, and Minda Miranda; and Kickstarter for letting us use the kitchen.
